Dull as Dishwater

about

From the film-maker Rachel Choi;

"This track makes me think of the way water reflects, swells, trickles and glimmers. Thanks to words a friend shared with me from ‘Blue Mind’ by Wallace J Nichols, I’ve been obsessed lately with the mesmerising power of water; the soft fascination that comes with being drawn to patterns in motion that are familiar and therefore soothing but not exactly repetitive so it demands attention in this gentle, modest sort of way. I love nature as a site for effortless engagement of mind and I’m interested in how this pushes up against other thoughts I’ve been preoccupied with and troubled by around water as a political space. Surrounded by oceans, water serves our country as a national border to block movement, create division and reinforce colonial ideals. So it seems fitting that the title connects with this idea of water being cleansing and calming but has potential to be dirty and used for ugliness. "
